More than half (54 percent) of Russians would not like to rent a house and consider such an opportunity exclusively as a last resort. This is what Rossiyskaya Gazeta (RG) writes about with reference to a number of expert data at its disposal.
The WG material notes that 23 percent of Russians consider renting a normal alternative to buying their own apartment.
At the same time, the newspaper specifies, in the Moscow market, almost three quarters - 73 percent - of tenants would like to remain in this status for no more than five years.
Housing has risen in price by season
Only 9 percent of respondents are ready to stay in tenants for 10 years or more. 18 percent of respondents rent housing in the capital temporarily: for a period from several months to a year.
The experts interviewed by the publication cite the underdeveloped housing rental market, the almost complete absence of residential complexes built specifically for lease in the country, as well as the legal insecurity of tenants as the main reasons for the prevailing antipathy of Russians towards rented apartments.
Earlier, the importance of developing a civilized rental housing market in the country was stated by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. According to the head of government, for this purpose it will be necessary, in particular, to work with the stereotypes inherent in the Russian mentality, in particular, with the installation on compulsory home ownership, whose roots go back to the 1990s.
